Orthodontics
Don't I Need to See an Orthodontist TO STRAIGHTEN MY TEETH?
While it's true that orthodontists receive special training in straightening smiles, experienced dentists like those at the Center for Dentistry are also well-qualified to help patients bring their teeth into proper alignment.
Our team of highly trained dental professionals can help you determine the best orthodontic option for your particular needs during a consultation at our Aiken office. Unlike most orthodontists, we can combine treatments such as teeth whitening and orthodontics so that you can achieve a perfectly balanced bite and a beautiful smile from the convenience of our friendly dental practice.

Your Orthodontic Treatment Options
After discussing your orthodontic concerns and individual goals, Drs. Leah B. Wilkins and Talmadge D. Wilkins can go over the best options for you. Treatment for misaligned teeth with orthodontics includes:
Braces
Braces are a trusted method to correct crooked teeth and can improve both the appearance and function of your bite. Patients with mild, moderate, and severe alignment issues are generally good candidates and they can choose between metal and clear ceramic braces. Both types of braces can achieve the same outcome with the primary difference being that the ceramic braces blend in more naturally with your teeth.
ClearCorrect
ClearCorrect® is similar to Invisalign® and uses a series of clear aligner trays to realign your smile. Like Invisalign, ClearCorrect offers patients with mild to moderate cases of misalignment a discreet option that provides a number of advantages when compared to traditional braces. Since the trays are removable, you can still eat your favorite foods and clean your teeth without any modifications to your regular schedule.

Treatment Time
For both of these orthodontic methods, the length of treatment will depend on the complexity of your dental misalignment. In general, orthodontic aligner systems like ClearCorrect and Invisalign take 12–18 months to achieve the best results. Treatment with braces generally takes 18–24 months.
Candidates
Clear aligner orthodontics, like ClearCorrect and Invisalign, are best suited for treating cases of mild to moderate misalignment. Braces can be used to correct mild to severe misalignment.
Appearance
ClearCorrect aligners are made of thin, translucent plastic, making them nearly invisible in your mouth. While traditional braces are more visible than clear aligners, there are things we can do to make braces more discreet, such as using clear or tooth-colored rubber bands on your brackets. You can also choose to receive clear braces if discretion is one of your treatment priorities.
Special Care
Because clear aligners are removable, practicing good oral hygiene during treatment is as simple as following your regular brushing and flossing routine. You can easily clean the aligners with a soft toothbrush and mild soap. Braces aren't especially difficult to clean around, and special tools like floss threaders can help you clean those hard-to-reach areas.
